GM 40009800 supersedes the original 55506665 oil pan and features several significant design revisions, including a relocated drain plug, revised internal sump geometry, updated oil pickup design, and additional changes to the pan casting.

One of the biggest improvements is the new drain plug location. On the original 55506665 pan, the drain plug was positioned above the lowest area of the sump, allowing a noticeable amount of used engine oil to remain trapped in the pan during an oil change.

The redesigned 40009800 moves the drain plug closer to the true low point of the sump, allowing more of the old engine oil to drain during routine service.

Improved Oil Drainage
The original 55506665 oil pan could retain used oil in the lower portion of the sump because of the factory drain plug location.

The new 40009800 design relocates the drain plug to a lower point in the sump, helping evacuate more used oil during an oil change and reducing the amount of residual oil left behind to mix with fresh engine oil.

Revised Oil Pickup Design
The redesigned oil pan utilizes a revised matching oil pickup tube with a different inlet shape, angle, and mounting orientation compared with the original design.

Important: The new and old pickup tube configurations are different. The correct pickup tube must be used with the corresponding oil pan configuration.
